Waxing Tips

  • Women should exfoliate on a daily basis because it reduces ingrown hair. Hair should be at least one quarter of an inch in order for wax to catch the hair and leave a clean area once ripped off.

  • No shaving or trimming of the hair in between

  • Recommend waiting five days before exfoliating as waxing removes the top layer of dry skin, which takes a few days to build back up.

  • Afterwards, exfoliate with a exfoliating glove or face cloth over towel-dried skin (or in the shower, if you have sensitive skin) every other day.

  • If you stick with regular waxing-and only waxing “guaranteed in five years-time, you’ll have the result of laser hair removal.” where hair growth is reduced by three-quarters.

  • Recommend not coming in three to four days before your period starts, because skin is increasingly sensitive at that time. Being Pregnant as well as caffiene, will also make your skin more sensitive.

What You Need To Know After Your Wax

Avoid touching the freshly waxed area for 30 minutes post-treatment so your body can reproduce natural oils to fill up these glands.

Do not apply any perfumed lotion for at least 12 to 24 hours after waxing, as it may cause a rash.

Avoid shaving between waxing appointments, as this will interrupt the process and stimulate the hair growth again. The skin will be less sensitive if waxing is done every 4 weeks. Over time, with regular waxing, the hair follicle will have less and less grip on the hair to be pulled and the hairs will come out more easily. Another reason to wax frequently is that you may even experience less hair growth over time.

Everyone’s skin reacts differently to waxing treatments, but you can expect to have temporary redness and minor irritation for a day or two. Slight itchiness may be experienced as the hair grows out.

You can use a gentle scrub on your waxed area after about two days following treatment. Continue to exfoliate 1 to 2 times a week thereafter.

HOW TO PREVENT INGROWN HAIRS?

Avoid the following for 24-48 hours following your wax as it relates to your waxing area:

  • Exfoliating products, Alpha-Hydroxy Acid(AHA) products, loofahs and scrubs

  • Direct sun exposure and tanning beds

  • Creams or products with fragrance or ingredients that may irritate

  • Deodorant (it results in irritation and clogging of open follicles)

  • Wearing tight clothing (it results in irratation and inflammation)

  • Hot tubs and saunas (warm showers are okay)

  • Exercise (it may cause sweating, touching the freashly waxed area)

After 24-48 hours, regular exfoliation will help keep skin soft and prevent ingrown hairs. Apply SPF 30 or greater sunscreen to any exposed treatments areas.

WILL WAXING MAKE MY HAIR GROW BACK DARKER/THICKER/STRONGER?

Absolutely not! Waxing does not cause you to grow more hair follicles. In fact, if you become a regular waxer, you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and not as coarse. When hair is shaved, it is cut off at the thick part of the hair, which is why you can feel stubble the next day. A properly waxed hair is removed from the root, and when the hair starts to grow back it is a new hair, very fine at the tip, so no stubble. The only things known to stimulate hair growth are hormones: natural or artificial.

Benefits of Waxing

  1. Exfoliation- Few seconds between the wax application and the removal, dead skin cells will stick to it and be removed also.

  2. Hair will take longer to grow back- it is instead pulled out from the root.

  3. For many, waxing makes the hair grow slower and finer.

  4. Waxing produces smoother results because hair is pulled from the root.

  5. Definition- Having your eyebrows waxed by a professional will make a difference in the definition because waxing is so precise.

  6. No skin irritation- No cuts or nicks that can leave you with scars.

Waxing Precautions + Contradictions

To ensure a successful waxing experience, please read and follow these instructions.

The following factors are known to make waxing more prone to cause skin lifting:

  • When you are pregnant, taking birth control, hormone replacement, or antibiotics. Your skin may be more sensitive to waxing, best to have a patch text 24 hours before getting waxed.

  • If you are a smoker, or if you have rosacea. Waxing can irritate dilated capillaries (weak or broken blood vessels) which are common with smokers or people with rosacea. If the capillaries are very red, stay away from waxing that area.

  • If you take blood thinners, have diabetes, phlebitis or want post-cancer hair growth in the side-burn area removed. These all relate to medical conditions so first get a doctors approval on doctors letter head.

  • If you use powerful exfoliators on your skin.

  • If you have used salicylic, alpha-hydroxy acid.

  • If you use any product with white willow bark. White willow bark extract and enzymes all strips cells from the skin. Combining too much exfoliation and waxing could make the skin red, bleed or even lift and turn scabby.

  • Women may experience extra sensitivity to waxing up to a week prior to the beginning of their period

  • Taking drugs for autoimmune disease

  • Medications for lupus

  • Taking prednisone or steroids

  • Psoriasis, eczema, or other chronic skin diseases

  • Recent cosmetic or reconstructive surgery

  • Recent laser skin treatment

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Lactic)

  • Oral antibiotics

  • Topical antibiotics

  • Retinol

  • Any acid based products

You should discontinue use of these medications for a minimum of three (3) months prior to waxing.

  • Avage (Acne medication)

  • Avita (Retin A)

  • Azelex (Peeling agent)

  • Clindamycin

  • Differin (Acne medication)

  • Doxycycline

  • Erythromycin

  • Isotretinoin (like Accutane)

  • Madifloxicine

  • Metronidazole

  • Renova (Retin A)

  • Retin A (Acne and Anti-aging medication)

  • Tazarac (Acne medication)

  • Tazarotene (Tazorac)

  • Tetracycline

  • Tretinoin (Retin A)

You should never wax when:

  • You currently take Accutane, Adapalene(Acne medication) Alustra (Retin A) or have stopped taking it less than a year. peel or microdermabrasion

  • You’re taking any prescription acne medication.

  • You have Lupus or Aids.

  • You’re in cancer therapy getting chemotherapy or radiation.

  • You have been in direct sunlight for a long period of time.

  • You have used a tanning bed within the last 24 hours.

  • Areas you’re using any alpha hydroxy acids over 8%

  • Over or around body piercings.

  • After a light chemical peel or microdermabrasion (you must wait a minimum of seven (7) days before waxing).

  • If you have had a laser skin resurfacing within the past year.

  • If you have had a physician administered peel within the past two (2) years.

  • Your skin is sunburned.

  • You have irritated skin.

What You Need To Know Before Your Wax

For best results, your hair should be at least 1/4-1/2- inch. If you have course hair it should be closer to 1/2- inch for the first few waxes. Once the hair becomes finer it can be waxed at a shorter length. If your hair is longer, we recommend shaving the area and booking your waxing appointment for at least three weeks later. It may take up to three waxing treatments to achieve smooth skin because hair grows in stages and all of your hair is never at the same stage. Every 4 weeks to be waxed, is best.

Refrain from taking a shower or bath immediately before the treatment. Soaking the hair will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective.
